Southaven Mayor Greg Davis, a Republican, told The Commercial Appeal Thursday that he is gay.

"While I have performed my job as mayor, in my opinion, as a very conservative, progressive individual -- and still continue to be a very conservative individual -- I think that it is important that I discuss the struggles I have had over the last few years when I came to the realization that I am gay."

Mayor Davis came forward and 'out of the closet' after it was revealed that he expensed and submitted a receipt to the City of Southaven for $67 from a store that bills itself as "Canada's premiere gay lifestyle store and sex shop." This isn't the only expense that Mayor Davis is concerned with. He is currently being investigated by the FBI for improper charges submitted to the city and personal credit cards for as much as $140,000 over three years.

While some people think it is important to allow people a chance to redeem themselves it is unclear if he has actually taken any personal responsible for mishandling tax-payers’ dollars. This is especially true considering the Commercial Appeal reported that Mayor Davis revealed that "the repayment is not from his personal accounts.
